Materials
Collections
The Caltech Archives' holdings include manuscript, photographic, print and audio-visual materials, oral histories, fine art and historic artifacts.
Oral Histories
Since 1978 the Archives has conducted an oral history program centered on the Caltech community and its distinguished scientists. More than 150 interviews have been completed and most are open to researchers. Also included are interviews on specific projects, such as the Keck Telescope and LIGO.
PhotoNet
PhotoNet is an online database of thousands of images from the Archives' collection of visual material. The history of science from the scientific revolution to the present is illustrated by photographs, fine prints, book illustrations, paintings and architectural drawings. The majority of the photos document prominent twentieth-century scientists associated with Caltech.
Finding Aids
Finding aids are available in the Archives for most of the Archives' manuscript collections. Many of these are also currently accessible and searchable through the Online Archive of California (OAC). This consortial project is ongoing, and new finding aids are added regularly.
For information on using Archives materials for commercial or educational
