Portrait of Sadi Carnot (1796-1832)

Photogravure reproduction after a lithograph portrait, done in 1812 by Julien-Leopold Boilly (1796-1874), of French mathematician and engineer Nicholas Leonard Sadi Carnot, who gave the first successful theoretical account of heat engines (the Carnot cycle).
