Feke/Portrait of Benjamin Franklin
Photograph of a 1746 oil portrait done by Robert Feke (ca 1701-ca 1752), the original in the Harvard University Portrait Collection, bequest of Dr. John Collins Warren, 1856.
It is considered the earliest known portrait of Franklin, showing a prosperous young man. It is believed to have been commissioned by Franklin's brother John, to hang beside his own portrait in his Boston home, and believed to have been done on the occasion of Franklin's retirement as a printer.
