First edition of this Italian work explaining the geometry behind the metric system, one of the administrative introductions into Italy from France during the Napoleonic period. The metric system in France was first presented to the public in 1793. It became compulsory in 1801 but many citizens still used the old systems based on a ten-millionth part of a quadrant of the earth's meridian between Dunkrik and Barcelona (through Paris), which unit of measurement was establised by a commission in 1799.
