Seven folding engraved plates 4 p.l., 318 pp. 1 leaf, 8vo, modern wrappers (spine splitting but still holding well by the cords, occasional light dampstaining, uncut. First edition of an important work on optics by the eminent Italian physicist Nobili (1784-1835) in which he demonstrates his original theory of light and its propagation. Six years later he announced his discovery of "Nobili's rings," the colored transparent fils of metal deposited by electro-chemical action.
