Copperplate engraved map, hand colored, showing travels of Abraham and the Holy Land. Central panel imitates hanging tapestry. Round border medallions contain scenes from the life of Abraham. Signed: Abrahamo Ortelio Antverpiano auctore. (Abraham Ortelius of Antwerp, author.) No date. This map is a folio from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the famous atlas by the Flemish cartographer Ortelius (1527-1598), which was first printed in 1570 and then in 30 more editions until 1612. This plate appeared first in the 1590 edition of the Theatrum.
