Typed information found on the back of framed print:
"Robert Seymour, the caricaturist who made this plate, was born in London in 1800 and served an apprenticeship to a Spitalfields silk designer in his early years. He afterwards turned to a higher walk in art and painted at first historical pictures and portraits. His attention then gradually turned to the illustration of books, which were mostly comic. Among these were The Odd Volume, The Comic Magazine, etc. But Seymour will be remembered as the first illustrator of “Pickwick” and as the creator of the types of Pickwick, Winkle, and Tupman on which no successor has contrived to improve. In 1836, however, when only a few numbers of “Pickwick” had been published he committed suicide."
