Interview with Edward Simmons on 50th anniversary of invention of the strain gauge
Unedited footage which includes an interview with Edward Simmons by Ralph N. Conner on the origins and initial development of the bonded wire strain gauge at Caltech in 1938. Simmons was a student of Professor Donald S. Clark and also worked with Gottfried Daetwyler, Research Associate in Aeronautics, in the creation of the final form of the strain gauge. Tape is narrated by Howard Nielsen.
