Portrait of George Stephenson (1781-1848)
Photogravure reproduction after a painted portrait of English mechanical engineer Stephenson, famous for his "Stephenson gauge," the standard rail gauge in most of the world. The original oil painting (ca 1845), which was done by the English portrait painter Henry William Pickersgill (1782-1875), hangs in Britain's National Portrait Gallery.
