Illustrium virorum elogia iconibus exornata
Quarto. Engraved title printed on A1 and 47 full page engraved portraits by H. David printed in the text, also numerous woodcuts of medals and coats of arms. Signature 2E printed on a defective sheet with outer leaves short in the blank lower margin.
A fine copy of Tomasini's book of portraits and biographies of recently deceased colleagues at the University of Padua, and other famous men. Prominent among the Padua professors is Harvey's teacher, Fabricius ab Aquapendente; other well known figures include Tycho Brahe, Casserius, Fallopius, Mercurialis, Cardanus, Taisner and, one of the few literary figures, Torquato Tasso. Tomasini published a separate volume Elogia virorum literis in 1644 (Brunet links the two books but they are quite separate works), and historians of the University of Padua are also indebted to him for his Gymnasium Patavinum (1654) which contains a view of the anatomy theatre of Fabricius.
