Tom Cannon. (Men of the Day series).
"Men of the Day," No. 340. September 12, 1885.
Tom Cannon, born 1846, was considered to be one of the finest jockeys of his time, not to mention an outstanding trainer. During his racing career he rode 1,544 winners, though only won the Ascot Derby once, in 1882. All three of his sons would also go on to renown as fine jockeys and trainers.
