Sir Alexander Campbell Mackenzie, born 1847, son of an eminent violinist and conductor in Edinburgh, studied in Germany and at the Royal Academy of Music, eventually becoming a renowned conductor and composer of his day. [Biographical text accompanies caricature.]

["Spy" was the pseudonym of caricaturist/illustrator Sir Leslie Ward (1851-1922).]
