Black Portrait In Wax
Black portrait in wax of Scottish chemist and physician Joseph Black (1728-1799). [Note: possibly after a medallion done in 1788 by James Tassie (1735-1799), which is on display at the British National Portrait Gallery. Tassie modeled his subjects in wax from life or from the best available drawings and then cast the medallions in a white lead-potash glass.]
