Judith
R. Goodstein - University Archivist
Judith
Goodstein came to Caltech as the Institute's first
archivist in 1968. Since then she has become a faculty
associate and Caltech's registrar. Dr. Goodstein earned
her BA from Brooklyn College and her PhD from the University
of Washington. Her fields of research include the history
of chemistry, twentieth-century Italian mathematicians
and modern American science.
Her first book, Millikan's School, was published in
1991, and she is also the co-author with David
Goodstein of the best selling Feynman's
Lost Lecture. The Volterra Chronicles,
detailing the career of Vito Volterra and published by
the American Mathematical Society, is set to appear in
late 2005.

Charlotte
(Shelley) Erwin - Associate Archivist
Shelley Erwin holds a BA in English from Vassar College
and a PhD in Music History from Yale. She joined the
Archives staff part-time in 1988 and was appointed Associate
Archivist in 1992. In 1996 she was certified by the
Academy of Certified Archivists. She is responsible
for collection development, processing and preservation,
as well as for archival procedures and services. She
also conducts oral histories and does writing and editing
for a variety of projects, including exhibits. Her
most recent work includes the connections between Throop
Polytechnic and the Craftsman movement, Kepler's use of
music in understanding the heavens, Einstein's
relationship with Caltech, and 17th-century British
dissenters.

Bonnie
Ludt - Administrative Assistant
Bonnie Ludt received her BA in Business Administration/Economics
from Chapman College. She joined the Archives staff
in 1990 after having been on the Caltech Libraries staff
since 1964. She assists researchers in the Archives,
in addition to working with publishers and researchers
seeking photographs and film and video material. She
also does photo scanning for the Archives' PhotoNet,
keeps our databases up to date, and does general office
management..

Kevin C. Knox - Associate Archivist
Kevin Knox joined the Archives staff in
2000 after completing his postdoctoral work at Caltech
as Ahmanson Instructor in the Humanities. He was awarded
his PhD from Cambridge University for his dissertation
on Georgian natural philosophy and has since published
numerous works on the topic. More recently, with Richard
Noakes, he published
From Newton to Hawking. He has also been
involved in a number of multimedia projects related to
the history of science. At the Institute Archives,
Knox's duties include processing collections, the
digitization of materials, the preservation of rare
materials and assisting researchers. Recently, he has
curated several online exhibits and has worked on the
Archives'
Oral
Histories Online and
Finding Aids Online projects.

Archives Web Site
The Caltech Archives web site was created by Caltech alumnus, Glenn Carlyle Smith, President of GCS Solutions LLC. Glenn did the web design, and created the database backend, automated web publishing system, and search system that serves the database content.
GCS Solutions LLC has been providing databases, web applications, and custom software in the Pasadena area since 1990.
