Rare Book Collection

17 engraved plates (one folding). Sheep-backed boards (foot of spine worn), flat spine gilt, red morocco lettering piece on spine.

First edition and surprisingly scarce. J.D. Cassini (1748-1845), last of the celebrated family of astronomers, was director of the Royal Observatory at Paris from 1784 until 1793. During his tenure he worked to modernize and reorganize the Observatory, which, for 120 years, had practically been the property of the Cassini family.

Very good copy. The plates depict various views and floor plans of the observatory.

Creation Jan. 1, 1810
