Italian Music, Giuseppe Verdi. (Men of the Day series).

Men of the Day, No. 193. February 15, 1879.

Giuseppe Verdi, born 1813 in Parma, Italy, at age 19 went to further study composition in Milan under the La Scala director Lavigna. His first success came in 1842 with Nabucco. Henceforth, he became a renowned composer of operas. His interest in politics lead to his being elected to the Italian Parliament in 1861 and as a senator in 1874. [T was the pseudonym of the classical French academic painter Theobald Chartran (1849-1907).]
