Par L. G. F. Vastel. One folding printed table. Large 4to, cont. mottled calf (minor rubbing), a prize binding with a central stamp in gilt of the “Lycee de Grenoble” on both covers, triple gilt fillets round sides, flat spine nicely gilt, red morocco lettering piece on spine.

First edition in French, and a very rare book, of “the first systematic attempt to place the theory of probability on a firm basis and is still the foundation of much modern practice in all fields where probability is concerned--insurance, statistics and mathematical heredity tables.”--Printing & the Mind of Man 179--(1st ed. of 1713). Fine copy. Printed label filled out in MS, on inside front cover awarding this book to a student in 1803.
