Thrice Champion. H. L. Doherty.

H. Laurie Doherty, a reknowned tennis player, was educated at St. Peter's Westminster and Trinity Hall Cambridge. Together with his brother Reggie (R. F. Doherty)--with whom he wrote a book on lawn tennis in 1903--they dominated the English tennis scene from 1897 to 1906. Doherty won Wimbledon each year between 1902 and 1906 and became famous for being the first foreign player to win the U.S. championship in 1903.
