On the Principles of English University Education...the Second Edition including Additional Thoughts on the Study of Mathematics

Crushed moroccco by "Hodgson, Binder, Liverpool," double gilt fillet round sides, spine richly gilt, red morocco lettering piece on spine.

Second edition, englarged (1st ed.: 1837). One of the central figures in Victorian science, Whewell (1794-1866), master of Trinity College, Cambridge, was deeply involved in the reform of university education in Britain. He was aware of many of the weak points of the Cambridge system, and tried to widen the course and raise the aims of the teachers.
